Choosing the Perfect Scooter for You

Scooters are a uniquely convenient, efficient, and safe way to commute and travel - whether you’re running errands, making deliveries, or heading off to work. But how do you know which scooter suits your needs? There are multiple factors to consider when shopping for your ideal scooter model, including your price point and the condition of the scooter.

Here are a few tips for choosing the right type of scooter for you! 
 

Amount in Budget 

It’s easy to assume that all scooters are economical and eco-friendly, but unfortunately that’s not always the case. There are scooters that have a great exterior, but actually handle very poorly or don’t run efficiently. With that said, it’s important to make sure you pay close attention to a scooter’s stats, which can include average miles per gallon. You will also want to keep an eye on points like the average speed and acceleration.

In addition, keep in mind that if you’re buying a scooter instead of a car it will typically save you money. However, if you’re buying your scooter along with your car you will need an engine that’s especially efficient.
 

Level of Power 

You will need to be aware of how much power you will require on average, but should also balance that with how much power you can handle, as well as afford. For example, small scooters with 50cc engines can hit 30-50 miles per hour, on average, which works if you’re staying in town. Mid-size scooters, with engines between 125 and 170cc can hit up to 70 mph, so they’re alright for backroads and slower highways. But if you need something to take on normal highway traffic, you will likely need an engine of 250cc or more. 

Keep in mind that the larger, more powerful engines are also far more expensive. Higher speeds are increasingly unsafe on an open-air, light-bodied scooter. That’s where the right balance becomes very important. Make sure you don’t get a scooter with less power than you need, while still remaining mindful of the prices and your own comfort level! 
 

Length Of Ownership

Remember to keep resale value in mind. Scooters, like most vehicles, depreciate significantly after only a year of ownership. Purchasing from highly regarded and well-known brands will increase the resale value significantly. Unfortunately, the best known brands aren’t always going to have the best scooter for you. 

However, if you plan on owning the vehicle for more than a few years the resale value will ultimately be less important. With that in mind, go for the brand and model that best suits your needs!
